故事发生在北宋末年:李师师原是东京城内一个染坊主的女儿，她和父亲以及师兄王小郎相依为命。一次逃亡中师兄为保护他们父女而走散。深夜山野，师师父亲以身护女而冻死，身无分文的师师在街头摆摊卖身葬父，被镇安坊李姥姥买走并让师师跟她姓，自此开启了李师师的青楼生涯。在镇安坊李师师先从后院小婢做起，在这期间陆续认识奔波的吕将、出巡的皇帝以及来自金朝的质子戈罕。李师师打小就好歌舞天资极高，很快得著名文士周邦彦赏识得以提拔进入镇安坊前院会客，李师师很快名动京城，风光无二。之后宰相蔡京之子蔡攸追求师师失败遂强娶，幸得皇帝出面才作罢，不久师师更是入宫得封明妃。再后来金朝南下灭宋，李师师更是只身前往金朝求她的追求者金朝太子戈罕放过宋皇…。West of Zanzibar is a 1928 film directed by Tod Browning about the vengefulness of a cuckolded magician (Lon Chaney) paralyzed in a brawl with his rival (Lionel Barrymore).
